How to Download Aadhaar
If you already have an Aadhaar number and want an electronic copy (e-Aadhaar), here’s how you can download it:
Steps to Download e-Aadhaar
- Visit UIDAI’s Official Website: Go to UIDAI’s official website.
- Click on “Download Aadhaar”: On the homepage, click on the option “Download Aadhaar” under the “My Aadhaar” section.
- Enter Details:
- Choose one of the following options:
- Aadhaar Number
- Enrollment ID
- Virtual ID (VID)
- Enter the selected details, along with your full name and PIN code.
- Choose one of the following options:
- Generate OTP
- Click on “Request OTP.” An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
- Enter OTP and Download:
- Enter the OTP and hit “Download Aadhaar.
- Password to Open e-Aadhaar:
- The downloaded PDF file will be password-protected. The password is the first four letters of your name (in capital letters) followed by your birth year (YYYY).
How to Update Aadhaar Details
Over time, you may need to update information in your Aadhaar card, like your mobile number, address, photo, or other biometric details. Here’s how you can do it.
Updating Aadhaar Online (For Address Only)
- Go to the UIDAI Website:

- Submit Address Details:
- Input your new address and upload a scanned copy of your proof of address document

Updating Aadhaar Offline
For mobile number, biometrics, name, date of birth, gender, and photo updates, you must visit an Aadhaar Enrollment Center.These things cannot be updated online.
- Visit Enrollment Center:
- Locate your nearest center via UIDAI’s portal.
- Submit Update Form:
- Fill out the update form, specifying the information you want to update.
- Biometric Verification:
- Biometric verification will be done at the center to ensure security.
- Receive Update Slip:
- After submission, you’ll get an acknowledgment slip with a tracking ID.
Services that cannot be Updated Online
Some Aadhaar updates cannot be completed online. You have to visit the Aadhaar Enrollment Center to update like :
- Mobile Number: Mobile number updates require biometric verification for security.
- Biometrics: Fingerprints and iris scans cannot be updated online.
- Photo Update: A new photograph requires a visit to the center.
- Name and Date of Birth: To change name and date of birth you have to visit your nearest aadhaar center.
